Cop's dishonour killing comment:
Cop's dishonour killing comment: Women's rights panel want him suspended
 INDIA , 9-May-2012  4:37:29 AM
A senior Uttar Pradesh cop has allegedly been caught on camera telling the father of a missing girl that had she been his daughter, he "would have killed her and committed suicide."

The IPS officer, Satish Kumar Mathur, who is the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Saharanpur, allegedly made the callous remark when a man approached the police to track down his daughter saying he believed she had eloped.

Reacting to the officer's comments, the National Commission for Women chairperson Mamta Sharma, has hit out at him saying she would approach the chief minister to have him suspended. "I will write a letter to Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav today about this police officer. I will call him if required and request for the officer's suspension, she added.

UP's Additional Director General of Police (ADG) too has admitted that the comment of the officer was illegal and they were probing the media reports.

The comments were made when the girl's parents met Mr Mathur to seek some reassurance from the top cop about their complaint. Their daughter is a minor and has been missing for a week and they have registered a case at the women's police station in Prabudha Nagar.

Instead of an assurance from the police that they would find his daughter soon, the man was told by the DIG that "it's a matter of great shame if anybody's sister or daughter flees. That man should drown himself and commit suicide."

He then goes on to say how he hopes he can find her in 24 hours, but if he had a sister like that he would shoot her or kill himself.

Local journalists present at the police station allegedly recorded the top cop saying this on camera.
