Chidambaram's election challenged:
Chidambaram's election challenged: High Court says case will continue
 INDIA , 7-June-2012  4:51:12 AM
Home Minister P Chidambaram has lost his attempt to have a case that challenges his election to the Lok Sabha dismissed. He will now face trial in the case.

The Madras High Court refused this morning to quash the petition against the minister. Instead, the court removed two of the 29 allegations against him - the charge of corrupt practices has been deleted.

Mr Chidambaram's lawyer said the major allegations that Mr Chidambaram's poll managers used the services of government officials and induced voters with cash have been removed by the court.

Soon after the court ruling, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) renewed its attack on the Home Minister, saying he must quit. "I appeal to the Prime minister to remove him from cabinet. He has no moral right to be on his post. Should have resigned much earlier" said BJP President Nitin Gadkari.

Mr Gadkari said that the BJP also has documents as proof against the union minister in the 2G scam.

"Why is Sonia Gandhi protecting him? Why is the Congress tolerating his corruption? Sonia jee had said she will not tolerate corruption. I want to remind her about this. The country wants an explanation," Mr Gadkari told the media today.

Mr Chidambaram won his election from the Sivaganga Lok Sabha constituency by a narrow margin of 3300 votes against the AIADMK's Raja Kannapan in 2009. Kannapan has accused the minister's supporters of manipulation of votes.

Mr Chidambaram had sought that the petition be dismissed
