| After the NCP made it clear today that Sharad Pawar is upset about more than just being overlooked for the second-most important position in the cabinet, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has reached out to him with public praise, calling him as "a very valued colleague."
The Prime Minister was quoted by PTI as saying, "Mr Sharad Pawar is a very valued colleague of mine whose knowledge, wisdom and experience are a great asset to our government". In the focused effort of the Congress leadership to bring about a quick reconciliation with its latest ally to sulk, party president Sonia Gandhi met Mr Pawar early this morning and held a 20-minute discussion with him. Mr Patel also insisted that this was not a sulk over Mr Pawar being denied the position of the number 2 man in the Government. "Mr Pawar is not so petty as to make this an issue for continuing in Government...our issues are about the functioning of the UPA and the larger coalition," he said.
He blamed the Congress for misreporting the facts of the current rift between the two allies,
