Kudankulam protests:
Kudankulam protests: Arvind Kejriwal claims meeting activist Udhayakumar in secret
 INDIA , 12-September-2012  3:22:43 AM
Protests against the nuclear power plant in Kudankulam continue unabated as protesters are still sitting in and around Idinthakarai, the venue of protest, weeks before the plant is due to open. Activist SP Udhayakumar, the man leading the protesters, did not surrender last night after he was reportedly taken away by the protesters. Activist Arvind Kejriwal, who joined the protests last night, claimed he met Mr Udhayakumar in secret and persuaded him not to court arrest.

According to reports, in a dramatic turn of events last night, Mr Udhayakumar was whisked away by emotional villagers in a boat last night to evade arrest. However, Mr Kejriwal claims he met Mr Udhayakumar only this morning.

In a press conference today, Mr Kejriwal said, "I had a very good discussion with him. I persuaded him not to surrender. We are trying to get bail for him. He must stay out of jail. He is doing a commendable job."

The authority, though, is still clueless about Mr Udhayakumar's whereabouts. Additional Director General of Police S George told IANS, "There is no news about the PMANE leaders surrendering. We are more concerned about maintaining law and order."

Yesterday, Mr Udhayakumar had announced that he would court arrest in the presence of a 'prominent national leader'. The activist had said, "We heard the police is planning a door by door search. We don't want our people to undergo this," but warned that the agitation across the state would continue even after his arrest.

Voicing his protest against loading of nuclear fuel at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP), he said, "Is it wrong to demand safety measures? We demand, till the case in pending in Supreme Court, the fuel should not be charged. Isn't it true that there is no back up water supply? Entire Tamil Nadu and Kerala will be at stake if something goes wrong."
