Kamal Haasan agrees to edit 7 scene
Kamal Haasan agrees to edit 7 scenes in 'Vishwaroopam'
 INDIA , 2-February-2013  10:43:54 AM
Actor-director Kamal Haasan has agreed to 'mute' seven scenes in his movie Vishwaroopam that Muslim groups have found objectionable. This follows a five-hour meeting today between Mr Haasan, government officials, and representatives of Muslim groups in Chennai.

Emerging from the meeting, Mr Haasan said, "I will let you know the date of the release soon," and thanked the government for facilitating the meeting. Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam representative MH Jawahirullah said, "The outcome of the meeting is fruitful."

Representatives of the Muslim groups and the actor-director have signed an agreement to seal the compromise. Mr Haasan refused to reveal which portions of the movie were being edited. He said that a list identifying the audio edits would be sent to the censor board, which would formally declare them.

Mr Haasan also added, "We will take back our petition and we hope that the ban on the film would be lifted."

All through Friday, the actor-director's brother Chandra Haasan met with the government and leaders of Muslim groups whose objections to the film had provoked a ban on the movie's screening in Tamil Nadu. But, talks were postponed as the protesters demanded Kamal Haasan's presence during the meeting. Mr Haasan, who was in Mumbai for the Hindi premiere of the movie, returned to Chennai today and took part in the negotiations.

The mediation session was offered on Thursday by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who stridently defended the ban, arguing that it was necessary to maintain law and order and to give both sides time to "cool down and come to an agreement.

The Rs. 95-crore blockbuster, which has been cleared by the censor board, first ran into trouble in Tamil Nadu after some groups alleged that it portrayed Muslims in poor light. The state government put its release on hold on January 23 citing law and order concerns. Soon protests against the movie spread to neighbouring Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh,
