| Two days ago, Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted that he would offer job to a young woman named Neha Sharma, and consider making her "his tenth adopted daughter." But the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh may have stumbled into a controversy.
A local Congress leader, PC Sharma, who visited Neha today, accused the Chief Minister of trying to mine her trauma for political points.
The 22-year-old was one of the lucky survivors of Uttarakhand's killer floods. She travelled last month to the hill state to locate her missing parents, who were among the thousands that disappeared after torrential rain marooned hundreds of villages and left pilgrims visiting the four holy shrines stranded.
But while searching for her family, Neha was found by a team of bureaucrats from Madhya Pradesh assigned to help people from the state, and she was moved to a hospital in Bhopal.
While Neha was in hospital, a man named Mahaveer Prasad showed up and told doctors that he is her father. Not true, said Neha, who however accepted that the 18-year-old with Mahaveer is her younger sister.
"I got a call from Bhopal informing me that my daughter is here. She is not recognising me now," Mahavir said.
Sources in the state administration now worry that Neha may be refusing to recognize her father to ensure that she does not have to pass on the job and other offers for help made to her by the government.
