No support on Telangana if
No support on Telangana if no order in Parliament: Rajnath Singh
 INDIA , 13-February-2014  5:49:54 AM
As a beleaguered Congress struggles to push through Parliament the controversial plan to split Andhra Pradesh to crave out a Telangana state, the main Opposition party, the BJP, is not offering to help.

The party has said that it is likely to support the Telangana bill, but senior leader LK Advani today made it clear that the government must ensure that order is restored in Parliament and the proposal is debated first.

"I have been in Parliament since 1970 but never witnessed such a scene before. It was disgraceful for Parliament... all this while they are thinking in terms of going ahead with the controversial bill of theirs. They should not do anything except holding vote on account in this chaotic situation," Mr Advani said.

The veteran was referring to the ugly scenes that Parliament has witnessed this week over the Telangana plan. Lawmakers were on their worst behaviour today, as those supporting a new state of Telangana clashed with others who are opposed to it. (Read more)

A Congress MP used pepper spray in the well of the House; another from the TDP yanked the mic from the Secretary General's seat; 17 parliamentarians have been suspended for the unprecedented violence inside the Lok Sabha.

Amid the bedlam, a determined Congress said it had tabled the Bill. But the BJP has challenged that. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said, "How is the govt claiming that it was introduced? The chaos began before the speaker could arrive. The bill has not been introduced."

Party chief Rajnath Singh has said the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar must call an all-party meeting immediately to find a way out of the impasse in Parliament.
