| India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has reportedly offered to quit as skipper of the Chennai Super Kings in the wake of the Indian Premier League betting and match-fixing scandal. According to media reports, the Indian captain is angry that his name has been linked with the scandal and reportedly spoke to N. Srinivasan, now suspended by the Supreme Court as the BCCI chief, and offered to step down but no decision was taken on the matter. Dhoni has skippered CSK in the last six editions of IPL, leading the team to the title twice. He has also led the team in Champions Trophy
Dhoni's name came up during a hearing of the IPL scam case in the Supreme Court on Thursday. Counsel for the petitioner (Aditya Verma of Cricket Association of Bihar), Harish Salve, had alleged that Dhoni is "guilty of corrupt conduct". He accused the India skipper of making a false statement before an inquiry committee appointed by the Supreme Court and of describing Gurunath Meiyappan - CSK official accused of spot-fixing and betting - as a "cricket enthusiast." On Friday, the BCCI senior counsel defended Dhoni saying he did not lie when he deposed in front of the IPL probe panel. "It was criminal to say MS Dhoni lied to the probe panel," said A. Sundaram.
In the past, Dhoni has also been charged with conflict of interest. The Indian skipper is employed by Indian Cements, the company which owns CSK. Srinivasan is the Managing Director of this company
