| An encounter between the Army and militants in Jammu & Kashmir's Shopian town has come to an end.
However, search is still on for one of the three militants, who is believed to be dead.
Two militants and an Army Major were killed in a six-hour-long gun-battle on Friday, while the body of another Army soldier was found on Saturday morning.
Security forces had launched a search operation in Karewa Malino village in Shopian, 55 kms from Srinagar, on Friday evening, following information about the presence of three militants.
The encounter began when the militants, who were holed up in a house were asked to surrender. However, they resorted to firing, triggering the gunfight.
The operation was suspended for the night, after which it resumed on Saturday morning.
Shopian is part of the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency which voted on Thursday. Militants had, on the day, also carried out an attack on a polling party, escorted by police and personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in the district at the end of the voting resulting in the death of a polling official and injuries to five others including three security personnel.
