| Priyanka Gandhi's Statement on Smriti Irani Displays Arrogance at its Worst: Arun Jaitley

| BJP chief strategist Arun Jaitley has offered some tips on what he calls "mature politics and statecraft" to the Congress' Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, accusing her of arrogance for being dismissive of Smriti Irani, his party's candidate in Amethi.
Ms Vadra's cold "who?' in response to questions about Ms Irani on Sunday made headlines. She was staging a massive roadshow with Rahul Gandhi, her brother and Congress vice-president, who has been winning Amethi since 2004.
Mr Jaitley wrote in a Facebook post just hours before Narendra Modi, the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, lands in Amethi to campaign for Ms Irani today, "There are some clear 'dont's' for mature politics and statecraft. Arrogance is to be avoided. Humility is always a preferred option. Mrs Vadra's statement yesterday on Smriti Irani denying her existence by asking a question "who" displays arrogance at its worst." Mr Modi is on a high-voltage five-rally trip to UP that he will wind up with the Amethi assault. Opinion polls show the BJP is positioned to win the most seats in the national election. The Congress, whose campaign is fronted by Rahul Gandhi, is struggling with predictions of one of its poorest performances ever. (Also Read: Narendra Modi to Campaign in Rahul Gandhi's Amethi)
Mr Jaitley referenced NDTV's opinion poll for the 33 seats in UP yet to vote, reminding the Congress that it "gave 40 per cent popular vote to the BJP and 4 per cent to the Congress."
This, he argued, makes Rahul Gandhi vulnerable in Amethi, considered a Gandhi bastion and one of the safest seats for the Congress.
"Coupled with extensive campaigning done by Smriti Irani, strong anti-incumbency against Congress and the Gandhis for non-development of Amethi and the desire to puncture the arrogance of those who feel that they own Amethi, have all a potential of making Amethi challenge into a stiff one. (sic)," Mr Jaitley wrote.
