Delhi University Crisis Over? Most Colleges Agree to Revert to Three-Year Undergraduate Course

A crisis that has engulfed Delhi University and thousands of students appeared close to resolution this evening with a vast majority of the university's 64 colleges reportedly agreeing to end a controversial four-year undergraduate programme, just 12 months after it was introduced.

Here are the top 10 updates:1.The denouement appears to begin with the resignation of Delhi University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh who had championed the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) last year. (Row Over 4-Year Course at Delhi University: 10 Developments)

2.However, late in the evening, there were conflicting reports about the resignation and sources close to the Vice Chancellor said they had urged him to reconsider.

3.The University Grants Commission (UGC), the government agency that funds universities and coordinates college education standards and policies, says Delhi University must cancel its four-year degree immediately. The agency says that the four-year programme violates the nationwide policy and requirement for an undergraduate degree to be completed in three years.

5.The Supreme Court has refused to hear a petition filed by a Delhi University professor who wants the four-year course to stay. The professor was asked to try the Delhi High Court instead.
