In Renewed Race for Power in Delhi,
In Renewed Race for Power in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal Meets Lieutenant Governor
 INDIA , 21-July-2014  6:0:10 AM
Arvind Kejriwal met Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung along with his party's 26 other Delhi legislators this morning to discuss the political situation in the national capital.

Mr Kejriwal tweeted after the meeting, "Met LG. Had good discussions. He will now invite BJP for discussions. If BJP claims they can form govt, LG will ask them to show nos." He also tweeted, "We told him that delay in dissolving assembly was encouraging horse trading." (Also read: AAP Leader Dilip Pandey, Workers Arrested; Party Claims Political Conspiracy)

Last week, Mr Kejriwal used radio ads and Twitter to accuse the BJP of trying to bribe his MLAs and then those of the Congress to garner the support it needs to form government in Delhi, which has been under President's Rule for the last six months.

Mr Kejriwal alleges that the BJP wants to avoid fresh elections fearing an unambiguous mandate for his Aam Aadmi Party to rule Delhi.

The BJP has sent him a one-crore defamation notice, alleging "mental agony, harassment and defamation." (BJP Asks Arvind Kejriwal to Pay Rs. 1 Crore as Damages for 'Defamation')

In elections held last December, the BJP was the single largest party, but was four shy of a majority of 36 MLAs. The rookie AAP was the surprise package, winning 28 seats in the 70 member assembly. It formed government after the BJP said no, with the help of a whitewashed Congress' eight MLAs.

Mr Kejriwal resigned 49 days later and has demanded fresh elections since. (Arvind Kejriwal Resigns: What Next for Delhi?)

The BJP's Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay said over the weekend, "The BJP's stand is clear... if Delhi goes to polls tomorrow, we are ready... and if we are asked to form the government, we will analyse our numbers and take a call accordingly." It was for the first time that Mr Upadhyay had mentioned fresh elections;
