Sunanda Pushkar, Wife of Congress
Sunanda Pushkar, Wife of Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor, Was Killed, Says Police
 INDIA , 6-January-2015  6:10:16 AM
The Delhi Police has filed a murder case in the death of Sunanda Pushkar, who was married to Congress lawmaker and former minister, Shashi Tharoor. The FIR or First Information Report does not mention any individual.

Describing her death as "unnatural", Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi said that "relevant people will be questioned." He said Sunanda appears to have died of poisoning which could have been injected or drunk by the 52-year-old.

The police chief said the sort of poison used has not been identified. Viscera samples are being sent abroad to determine that.

The police says the case has been registered based on medical reports from Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences where Ms Pushkar's post-mortem was conducted after she was found dead in a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17 last year.

"Stunned to hear that the Delhi Police have filed a case of murder against unknown persons in the demise of my late wife... Anxious to see this case is investigated thoroughly, continue to assure the Police of my full co-operation," said Mr Tharoor.

Mr Tharoor's party, the Congress, has said that "everybody who is remotely connected should be questioned." The party's Abhishek Manu Singhvi said also said, "Let us maintain a sense of balance, this is a complaint/FIR against persons unknown, not yet clear whether its suicide or murder. We must not sensationalize this, let us wait."

Congress leaders like Mr Singhvi and Rashid Alvi have also asked why took the police a year to register a case.

Mr Tharoor, the Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvanthapuram in Kerala, has repeatedly called for a swift inquiry and pledged his cooperation.
