Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Pays Surprise Visit to Nagpur Central Jail

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, today, stressed on the need to revamp the entire jail administration in Maharashtra, after he paid a surprise visit to the Central jail in Nagpur, from where five criminals escaped last month.

The visit by the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, comes 20 days after five hardened criminals escaped from the high security jail and are still at large.
Mr Fadnavis, who arrived in Nagpur from Mumbai, was on his way to his official residence 'Ramgiri' this morning when he decided to make an unannounced visit to the jail. He was accompanied by Divisional Commissioner Anoop Kumar and Nagpur Police Commissioner SP Yadav.

Recently, over 100 cell phones were recovered from the jail.
The escapees included three accused booked under MCOCA (Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act) and a convict of an arms case convict.
After in the incident, the State government had suspended the jail superintendent and three teams have been formed to recapture the prisoners.
