Nicotine Added in List of Poisons: Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij

Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij today said that Nicotine has been added in the list of 19 types of poisons notified under Haryana Poison Possession and Sales Rules, 1966.
"It (Nicotine) is found in beedi, cigarettes and tobacco," he said.
The Minister said that after addition of Nicotine poison in the list, the number of the enlisted poisons under the Rules has increased to 20.

He said that now those selling Nicotine would have to follow the same rules which were applicable to those in the profession of possession and sales of already notified poisons.
Nicotine means Nicotine in extracted form; Nicotine in any form as an additive or its derivatives, he said.
Mr Vij said that Acetic acid, Acetic Anhydride, Sulphuric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Phosphoric Acid, Hydrofluoric acid, Perchloric acid, Formic acid, Hydrocyanic acid, Nitric Acid, Oxylic Acid, perchloride of mercury, potassium hydroxide, Hydrochloric acid, were already in the list.
The exceptions in the list are substances containing less than 5 per cent in weight of Hydrochloric acid sodium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide, Formaldehyde, phenol and sodium hypochlorite, he said.
