Court Defers Order on Framing
Court Defers Order on Framing of Charges Against Anbumani Ramadoss
 INDIA , 2-November-2015  9:53:51 AM
A court in New Delhi today deferred its order on framing of corruption charges in two separate cases against former Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss and various others.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special judge Ajay Kumar Jain on October 7 had found prima facie evidence against Mr Ramadoss and others in two cases, relating to alleged favours being shown by Mr Ramadoss, health minister in the United Progressive Alliance-I government, and other accused to the private Rohilkhand Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly city and the Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (IMCHRC) in Indore.

The court, which was scheduled to formally frame charges against the accused today, deferred it for December 10 after defence counsel of accused apprised it that they have filed a plea challenging its order on charge in apex court, which is listed for November 6.

The accused sought adjournment citing its hearing pending in the Supreme Court.

According to the chargesheet, Mr Ramadoss abused his official position to grant permission to the Indore-based institution to admit students although it lacked adequate facilities.

The Medical Council of India (MCI) and a panel appointed by the Supreme Court had said that IMCHRC was not having sufficient faculty and clinical material required as per MCI norms, it said.

The CBI has chargesheeted Mr Ramadoss, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry's former deputy secretary, KVS Rao, section officer Sudershan Kumar, consultant professor JS Dhupia, and Safdarjung Hospital's head of department (pathology), Dipendra Kumar Gupta, IMCHRC officials Nitin Gothwal, SS Bhadoria and Pawan Bhambhani and doctors KK Saxena and SK Tongia.
