After Day-Long Gun-battle In Pathan
After Day-Long Gun-battle In Pathankot, 4 terrorists Dead: 10 Developments
 INDIA , 2-January-2016  12:5:49 PM
The pre-dawn attack on Punjab's Pathankot air base ended on Saturday evening with all five terrorists being killed. Three Air Force personnel have died in the 13-hour gun-battle. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed their appreciation for the nation's security forces

Proud of our Jawans and security forces," said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "Enemies of humanity who can't see India progress, such elements attacked in Pathankot but our security forces did not let them succeed".

2"I salute our forces on successful operation in P'kot"," Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.

3Sources say the attack was carried out by the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. The terrorists were from Bhawalpur in Pakistan and were ordered to blow up the helicopters stationed at the base.

4The gun-battle had started at 3.30 am when the group of terrorists, who had infiltrated the border on December 31, struck.

5They had accessed the air base compound possibly by a drain that meets the Nalwa Bridge canal adjoining to the air base, sources said. Till that point, they came by a car hijacked on Friday from a police officer in Punjab.

6The terrorists had used the officer's phone to contact their handlers. The intercepted calls raised the alarm, and with direction from the Prime Minister's Office, National Security Guards and army units moved in to secure the vital installations in Pathankot.

7Given the advance information, the terrorists were kept confined in the periphery of the air base. The vital air force assets -- MiG-21 Bison fighters and Mi-35 attack helicopters - were safe.

8Heavy armoured personnel carriers - bullet proof and mine-resistant vehicles that carry soldiers safely into operation areas -- were used to close in on the spot where the terrorists were holed up.
