Woman, daughter murdered
Pushpa's husband Shekhar and their second daughter Soumya near their house at Bhashyam Nagar in Bangalore
 INDIA , 8-January-2007  1:38:57 AM
A 37-year-old woman and her 12-year-old daughter were found murdered on Sunday with their throats slit open at their second-floor residence at Bhashyam Nagar in the jurisdiction of the Sriramapuram police here.

The police gave the names of the dead as Pushpa and Ramya.

The incident came to light when Shekhar, Pushpa's husband, and their other daughter Soumya returned home from Sabarimala.

Murder for gain

Malini Krishnamurthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North), who visited the spot, said that 170 gm of gold jewellery and Rs. 30,000 in cash were reported missing.

She said that it could be murder for gain.

Given the condition of the bodies and the foul smell in the house, the police said that Pushpa and her daughter could have been murdered at least two days ago.

Many people began gathering outside the house in Bhashyam Nagar, as the news of the murder spread.

The police said Shekhar and Soumya slept on the terrace after they returned from pilgrimage last night.

They said Shekhar knocked at the door on their arrival and as there was no response, he decided that they spend the night on the terrace.

However, he called the police because of the foul smell emanating from the house.

Police personnel were the first to enter the house and find the decomposed bodies.

The police said Shekhar had left for Sabarimala on January 3.

Shekhar and Pushpa came to Bangalore with their daughters a year ago, after he suffered losses in his paint business and closed down shop at Mulbagal in Kolar district.

Pushpa used to run a beauty parlour and Ramya was an eighth standard student.
