| After spending a night in the Patiala jail former cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is hoping Friday would bring some relief.
In December last year Sidhu was found guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in a case related to an incident in Patiala in 1988.
Sidhu had then attacked 65-year-old Gurnam Singh who later succumbed to his injuries.
Sidhu's appeal against the sentence comes up in the Supreme Court on Friday.
"I am submitting to the Majesty of Law, simple. Whatever be the directions I am ready to comply with it irrespective of the consequences," said Sidhu.
His lawyers are confident of getting relief from the Supreme Court.
"Now Supreme Court will hear the appeal on Friday and whatever order Supreme Court passes about his release, about his bail, about his appeal that will be full and final," said Sat Pal Jain, Defence Advocate.
Sidhu came to surrender packed and ready for a prolonged period in jail.
In 2004, when Sidhu was elected to the Lok Sabha he vowed not to return to Patiala his hometown as long as he was a sitting MP from Amritsar.
Now he has returned to Patiala not as an MP but as a convict.
For the last 19 years Sidhu has been battling hard to avoid going to the jail but finally he went to Patiala Jail now the question is will he get any relief from Supreme Court or serve the entire term
