| Successful candidates will be given placements at private hotels and resorts in the state to cater to the demands of the new and innovative "magic tourism" concept, an attempt to showcase the best in Indian magic traditions.
Twenty-five-year old Akhil, who has a passion for magic, is attending the fair. This despite the fact that he has a masters in computer science and is employed with an animation company.
"Foreign magicians are getting daily shows. Their performances astonish us. They get a lot of opportunities. Similar opportunities are now becoming available in India. I think we should be prepared for it," said Akhil.
"Magic gives me a certain sense of satisfaction and peace of mind. We get that from music as well, but not from computer science," said Mohan Kumar, magician.
But getting a magician's job in a hotel is anything but magic as prospective employers mark them on their magic and communicative skills.
"In five-star hotels and resorts they are looking for magicians for entertaining guests and customers. And that is part of tourism as well," said Gopinath Muthukad, Director, Magic Academy.
Twenty-three prospective candidates landed up for the job interview but only four of the candidates got selected. Even the esoteric field of magic is getting more competitive.
