Nithari duo lured underprivileged
Mehnaz, a seven-year-old resident of Sector 36, who studies in DPS Noida also had a similar incident to tell.
 INDIA , 18-January-2007  4:56:4 AM
Some students at a school run for underprivileged kids at Nithari village claim that Noida serial killings accused duo Surinder and Moninder had tried to abduct them.

"He said that he was my uncle and that I was being called by my mother. I told him that he was not my uncle. He then tried to pull me, I bit him and ran away. It was him," said a child.

Mehnaz, a seven-year-old resident of Sector 36, who studies in DPS Noida also had a similar incident to tell.

"He tried to pull me several times. He said he'll take me to my Dad," said Mehnaz, DPS girl.

NDTV: How did you recognize them.

Mehnaz: I saw his and the woman's photo on TV.

The parents of the kids are not sure whether it really was Moninder or Surinder, but they do say that they were in the know of the incidents.

"I was told about the incident that some guy had come to take her away. I was told that the guy had a beard and wore glasses," said a parent.

A teacher pointed that all the incidents involving the school's children and the accused took place close to Moninder's residence D-5.

"All these incidents took place near that water tank (near the house)," said a teacher.

The presence of mind shown by these kids deserves appreciation, and how the school prepared them to deal with such situations, is an example that all schools should follow.

"I used to tell the students that they should not entertain any stranger and not accept any gift from them. And if caught in a situation, throw dust in the stranger's eyes and if nothing worked, we advised them to put dust into their eyes," said the teacher.

The doors are open and some parents are fortunate enough to have their kids back home. Many kids lost their lives in this vicinity but some could survive the Nithari nightmare because of the lessons they learnt at school.
