| The CBI has recovered the murder weapon used in the Noida serial killings.
An axe was recovered from the residence of Moninder Singh Pandher, one of the two prime accused in the case.
Information about the weapon was given to CBI by Surinder Koli, the other main accused, during his interrogation.
Surinder told investigating officers that he killed at least two people with the axe.
Challenge for CBI
It will be a long wait for justice for the victims of the Nithari nightmare.
The case stands as a challenge for the CBI with its delicate intricacies and forensic nature of the investigation.
As the probe progresses, almost everyday the agency is finding new evidence.
According to sources, the testimonies of children made to the CBI will be used to further its investigations and primarily to establish the character of Surender Koli.
The CBI has also sent the 17 skulls and all the bones dug out from the drains near D-5 - the address of Moninder Singh in Nithari - to AIIMS, from where it will be sent to Hyderabad.
The CBI says that samples from the bones and skulls would be used for DNA testing to establish links between the victims and the parents of missing children.
Moreover, if the DNA results do not match the samples of those submitted, the samples will be matched with those of people claiming to be parents.
Difficulties in DNA tests
However, there's a slight hurdle, i.e., the DNA tests are accurate only for bones less than two years old.
The CBI is also bracing itself for an expensive probe, as each test will cost between Rs 4 to Rs 5 lakh.
"It will take at least two months for the entire process to culminate as the panel of experts will give their opinion on every minute finding," said Chandrashekar Rao, Forensic Expert.
The Nithari probe certainly isn't the first complicated case to have landed at the CBI's doorstep, but it certainly is one of the most horrific and one that will challenge the investigating agency.
