Nursery admissions as per rules:
All the schools will have to follow the 100-point system developed by the Ganguly Committee, which banned interviews of children or parents.
 INDIA , 20-January-2007  1:16:31 AM
It's the final result for nursery admissions this year that there will be no interviews of children and their parents. All schools will have to strictly go by the Ganguly committee recommendations.

Four major schools in Delhi including Sriram and Vasant Valley have to now begin admissions and will now have to go strictly by the guidelines they have been fighting against in the court.

"There is always a better solution, we have come up with one solution. I am not disputing the fact that there can definitely be a better one. We will see to that," said Dr Shyama Chona, Principal, DPS R K Puram.

All the schools will have to follow the 100-point system developed by the Ganguly Committee, which banned interviews of children orThe 100-point system rewards children who live near schools and whose siblings or parents are alumni.

Schools like Sriram have been arguing that admission and how to grant it should be their prerogative.

Special committee

In particular, they want the right to interview parents of candidates. While the High Court has dismissed those arguments for the coming year, it has set up a special committee, which will look at what schools want for next year.

While schools contest it, parents like Devika Mathur say the system makes things simpler and clearer.

Devika's elder daughter is in a reputed central Delhi school now her second child will sail into the same school because of the 20 points reserved for siblings.

"I do not have a problem with the weightage system. In fact I think it's a better deal than the interviews without interaction how will the principals distinguish the people that come for admissions?," asked Devika.

With the court finally making way for private schools to address their concerns, private schools can now breathe easy.

It also makes one thing clear that the controversy over nursery school admissions may finally be over for parents and principals.
