| Robbers snatched away at knifepoint 6.5 kg of gold jewellery worth Rs. 60 lakh from a jeweller in busy T. Nagar on Monday afternoon.
S. Dinesh (37), the complainant, said he and his nephew A. Dipesh (23) went to a new jewellery showroom on North Usman Road to show the shop owners new gold chain models. As the shop was closed for lunch, they were asked to come later.
Around 2. 50 p.m., they had lunch in a nearby restaurant and came out. When Dipesh started his two-wheeler, two persons surrounded them. One of them slapped Dinesh. He immediately realised that the duo had come to snatch the jewellery.
When he resisted, the robber brandished a knife while his accomplice snatched the bag and the two escaped in a two-wheeler. The trader has a jewellery shop in Sowcarpet. Sandeep Rai Rathore, Joint Commissioner of Police, in charge of South Zone, said a five-member gang came in two vehicles. "We are tracking the suspects and we have some clues also," he said.
