| The Government is considering making available revised autorickshaw tariff cards to city residents. The cards will guide commuters on the new rates.
Transport Commissioner C.P Singh on Sunday said the department would look into a suggestion to make the tariff cards available at post offices, police stations and other public places. The department had distributed 35,000 cards to the drivers, he said at a meeting with drivers and consumer associations to review implementation of the revised auto fares.
Despite the new rates (Rs.14 for the first two kms; Rs.6 for every subsequent km) coming into effect from January 26, most autorickshaw owners are yet to recalibrate the meters.
The department will also take efforts to set up pre-paid stands at Central railway station, Egmore railway station, Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus in Koyambedu and airport, Mr. Singh said.
Another meeting will be convened within 10 days to discuss on how to put in place the pre-paid stands as well as help drivers recalibrate meters. The department will invite representatives of industrial units that manufacture meters, he said.
