| A court in Tamil Nadu has declared three workers of the opposition AIADMK party guilty of setting fire to a bus in which three students died.
Twenty-eight others were found guilty of other crimes in the incident in 1999.
The bus was attacked in Namakkal in Dharmapuri district immediately after the party's leader Jayalalithaa was convicted in the Pleasant Stay hotel case.
All the three girls who died were among students travelling in the bus. Eighteen other students were injured in the attack.
It was carried out allegedly on the orders of a local AIADMK panchayat president.
Veeraswamy, the father of one of the three girls - Kokilavani has been fighting the case single handedly.
Witnesses turned hostile and case files disappeared. But the case was transferred from the Krishnagiri Court where the trial started to a court in Salem after the High Court intervened on Veerasamy's petition.
"The souls of the three girls who were killed have been so powerful that despite all the money and muscle power, this case is coming to its logical conclusion," S Rajendran a DIG with the special investigation team said.
The prosecution says it will push for the death penalty for the crime witnessed by 343 people.
