| 5.05 lakh students to take SSLCexam |
| M.A. Baby says the Government is "doing everything it can to prevent leaking'' of question papers.

| Vehicles carrying question paper packets for the SSLC examinations will be provided armed police escort from the State's borders to the examination centres. A high-ranking police officer will coordinate the security measures for the question paper packets at the State-level while the respective District Superintendents of Police will coordinate the security measures at the district-level in collaboration with officials of the Department of Education, Minister for Education M.A. Baby said here on Thursday.
After the question paper packets reach the designated centres, night patrolling by the police will be effected. The State Government is "doing everything it can" to prevent "leaking" of the question papers from the printing press outside the State, Mr. Baby said at a press conference. Extra security will be provided at schools located in isolated places. In reply to a question, the Minister said there would be no active deployment of police outside the classrooms on the days of the examinations.
As many as 5,05,201 students have registered for this year's SSLC examinations, scheduled to begin on March 14. Of this, 4,58,785, fall in the `school going' category. While 31,825 students are repeating the examination in the new scheme, 14,591, would write the examinations in the old scheme. As many as 928 students will write the examinations at 16 centres in the Gulf countries, 1,031 students will take the examinations at nine centres in Lakshadweep. In all, there will be 2,712 examination centres. In the school-going category, 2,31,569 candidates who have registered are girls. While 42,657 candidates are in the SC category, 4,911 candidates are in the ST category.
This year 3,97,837 candidates will write the examination in the Malayalam medium and 54,890 will take the examinations in the English medium. While there are 3,545 candidates in the Kannada medium, there will be 2,513 candidates writing in Tamil.
