| The Marathi versus Bihari campaign triggered by Raj Thackeray has now moved from a war of words to rioting, battered cars and bruised guards.
Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam's residence in Mumbai was attacked on Sunday night, allegedly by Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists.
Nirupam has blamed Raj for the attacks.
"Raj is responsible for this. They insulted Biharis unnecessary to please their local Marathi votebanks. The Biharis have done nothing to the Marathis," said Nirupam.
"Raj is simply creating regional tensions. We burnt his effigy, so they have threatened me. But instead of a fight on the political level they have attacked my personal life," he added.
Earlier on Sunday afternoon, Nirupam had burnt Raj's effigy in protest against his 'anti-Bihari' remarks.
The security guards at the Beverly Hills Apartment building were beaten up and a car belonging to Nirupam's wife was damaged.
