Sarvajit' to take State into prospe
Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy tasting `Ugadi pachchadi' during `Telugu New Year's Day' celebrations in Hyderabad
 INDIA , 20-March-2007  3:20:18 AM
Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy has said that the State is on fast track of development and no hurdle can stop it from marching ahead.

Speaking at the Ugadi celebrations organised by the Government at Ravindra Bharati here on Monday in preference to March 20 as suggested by some scholars, he said: "Grahanam is gone. Rahuvu and Ketuvu no longer eclipse the sun and hence its rays cannot be stopped from reaching the State."

Schemes like Jalayagnam on which massive amounts were spent had already begun to yield fruits, he reminded the audience.

Rendering the new almanac, C. V. B. Subrahmanyam of Telugu University predicted all-round development and growth that could lead to economic prosperity of every section.

"The heavy spending made in `vyayanama samvatsaram' would lead to good results in `Sarvajith', the new Telugu year, he added.

He said copious rain would benefit farmers as the Government had undertaken `Jalayagnam' and the year would also mark the beginning of the golden era for fine arts. `Sarvajith' was pro-women, he said, predicting greater empowerment of women during the year.

The authorities were careful enough to begin the function at 10.30 a.m. -- 128 minutes after the `tithi' switched to `padyami' (first day of the new moon) to send across the message that there would be no ill-effects of the solar eclipse on it.

The Chief Minister tasted the traditional `Ugadi pachchadi' (a concoction of neem leaves, jaggery, salt etc) along with Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy and others. A village scene was re-created on the stage with the recently completed Gundlakamma project in the backdrop, a thatched house in the front and goats tied around.
