| As the first step towards phased withdrawal of police from Nandigram in West Bengal, the State Government on Monday initiated moves to shift two police camps.
The Government also issued a notification stating that it would not acquire any land for industry at Nandigram.
Purbo Medinipur District Magistrate Anup Agarwal told The Hindu that copies of the notification had been sent to all gram panchayats concerned and political parties.
The Government will hold an executive inquiry to ascertain the circumstances that led to the March 14 police firing at Nandigram and whether any "outsiders" also opened fire at the villagers.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had said that as the Calcutta High Court had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to make investigations, there was no need for a judicial probe.
