| The 1983 champions will fail to make the Super 8s if they do not beat Sri Lanka, and even if they win they must keep a better run rate than Bangladesh.
India lost to Bangladesh when the two teams met, but have since gained ground on Habibul Bashar's team.
India thrashed Bermuda on Monday before Bangladesh lost heavily to Sri Lanka.
Friday's match will thus be the biggest of the tournament so far.
And Sri Lanka will be keen to maintain their 100% record, firstly to put India out of the tournament, but more importantly to take two points forward to the Super 8s.
Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene is keen to settle the score after his team's recent 3-1 series defeat in India.
"We knew it would be a great challenge to go there and play," he said.
"Now it is probably our turn to show them. This is a different venue, different conditions and we are looking forward to it."
Sri Lankan new ball bowlers Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga could prove a handful for India's batsmen, particularly if they get to bowl in the morning.
India struggled against Bangladesh's pacemen on a Queen's Park Oval pitch that has aided early seam movement.
Virender Sehwag blasted a rapid century in India's win over Bermuda but will be more sorely tested on Friday.
Sri Lanka will fancy their own batting after opener Sanath Jayasuriya led the way against Bangladesh on Wednesday by hammering his 24th one-day hundred.
