| Two candidates supported by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) have won elections to the State Legislative Council from graduates' constituency the results of which were getting delayed due to the elaborate counting process.
Trends available on Monday evening showed that the candidates supported by the Left parties would dominate the Council from the eight graduates' constituencies.
The TRS winners were R. Satyanarayana (Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar constituency) and K. Dilip Kumar (Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda).
Among those leading even as counting was in progress were three CPI (M) supported candidates-- K. Nageshwar (Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar), George Victor (East and West Godavari) and M.V.S. Sarma (Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram).
V. Balasubrahmaniam, who is jointly supported by CPI (M) and CPI in Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor, and two candidates of TDP, Chigurupati Varaprasad (Krishna and Guntur) and M. Venkatasiva Reddy (Kadapa, Anantapur and Kurnool), are also leading.
While Mr. Satyanarayana, a journalist, won with a majority of 9,985 votes over Komatireddy Mohan Reddy of the Congress, Mr. Dilip Kumar romped home by a margin of 15,953 votes over B. Sarala of CPI (M).
The latter was a personal secretary of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao as Union Labour Minister.
He had resigned from the Indian Forest Service (IFS) to join TRS.
The counting of votes for the graduates' and teachers' constituencies commenced simultaneously on Sunday morning.
Though the counting for teachers' constituencies was completed and winners declared the same night, the exercise for graduates' constituencies went on painstakingly on Monday. Barring Mr. Satyanarayana and Mr. Dilip Kumar, the results in other districts were not expected until Tuesday.
