| The LDF government in Kerala and Left parties are on Thursday celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first Communist ministry formed in Kerala under E M S Namboodiripad in 1957.
The Kerala government has planned a number of commemorative programmes across the state
The state Governor Governor R L Bhatia will inaugurate the main function in the old Assembly Complex in Thiruvananthapuram and Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan will address a commemorative meeting later in the day.
About one lakh people are expected to take part in the meeting.
The E M S Namboodiripad government had initiated several radical measures including land reforms, during its 28-month tenure in the office.
It was also the first elected state government in India to be dismissed by the Centre using article 356.
The Congress led opposition UDF has decided to stay away from the celebrations calling it a needless extravaganza.
