| SC clears Justice Bhalla's promotion

| The Supreme Court collegium has cleared Justice Jagdish Bhalla's promotion as Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court.
The order comes despite some reservations expressed by President A P J Abdul Kalam.
Justice Bhalla, a judge at the Allahabad HC, faced allegations that his wife bought land at a throw-away price.
The President had sent the file back to the SC collegium asking them to reconsider the judgement in the light of the allegations.
But the SC body stood firm on its earlier decision of appointing Justice Bhalla as the CJ.
He is now likely to take over as Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh instead of Kerala as planned earlier
