| Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi handed over recovered stolen properties, including jewellery, vehicles and electronic gadgets, valued at over Rs 1 crore to owners in his official chambers at the Secretariat here on Tuesday. The properties were stolen by a bureau puller and his accomplices over the last seven years.
Later in a brief function, State Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin handed over properties to 196 complainants in the presence of Director-General of Police D. Mukherjee, Police Commissioner Letika Saran, Additional Commissioner S. R. Jangid, Joint Commissioners Sunil Kumar, G. Dorairaj, M. Ravi and Sandeep Rai Rathore. In 2001-07, police registered cases of bureau pulling in various police stations in the city.
Special teams were formed to nab the accused and sustained surveillance over the movement of suspected persons led to the arrest of bureau puller, whose name was given as Nagamani.
Based on his confession, police recovered 1,233 sovereigns of gold, 2,170 grams of silver, Rs. 6.57 lakh in cash, five cars, four autorickshaws, three laptops and 25 mobile phones from various places.
During night rounds last month, the St. Thomas Mount police nabbed Nagamani , which led to the detection of burglary in 105 places in the south and central zones committed by him and his accomplices, police said.
