| It's been four days since the Sindhi panchayat in Bhopal decided to drastically curtail what they termed as 'liberties' given to their daughters.
Mobile phones and two-wheelers were banned for Sindhi girls and they were asked to cover their faces with scarves.
The drastic measures were taken after a girl from the Sindhi community eloped with a Muslim boy.
But as NDTV discovered, there have been few takers for these new rules.
Like the Manglani family, which has decided not to impose the panchayat's diktat on their two college-going girls.
"In our home our children are not stopped from doing anything," said Shikha Manglani, mother.
"Mobiles and cars are today's necessity, children these days can't live with them," added Ramesh Manglani.
Recently, two Sindhi girls chose to marry outside their community. Their personal decision soon turned into a public debate.
And though the diktat followed protests, it turns out that there aren't too many takers for the panchayat's new rules.
The diktat seemed more like a publicity stunt. Those who issued it, gained a few moments of glory and nothing else. Common sense has prevailed over cheap gimmickry.
