| Nestled among the hills, pine and deodar forest adding to its beauty, Shimla is one of the most preferred tourist destinations, especially during the summer months.
The town, located 2200 metres above mean sea level, is generally known for its pleasant weather but this year has proved to be an exception.
Though summer is yet to peak, temperatures are 4-5 degrees above normal - much to the discomfort of tourists.
We are feeling hot. We wanted to go for shopping but it was hot. So we came back, said Bharati, tourist.
In the daytime, it gets really hot. You really feel it when you move around. Nights are still better. Summers were not so bad here, added another tourist.
Warm weather
The older generation in this hill town didn't quite need fans but these days the gadget has become a necessity, especially in restaurants given the fact that cool Shimla is hotting up. But not everyone's complaining.
We are now selling more fans. There has been a growth of 10-12 per cent every year, said Surinder Khanna, fan shop owner.
The Met department attributes the warm weather to the long dry spell that the hill station has been going through.
The reason for this is because of the long dry spell. Since March there is no rain in the entire state so temperature has gone above normal, said Manmohan Singh, Director, Metereologocal Department, Shimla.
One only hopes that the Western disturbances reach Himachal in a couple of days, bringing along the showers of joy and comfort commonly associated with this favourite tourist hangout.
