| A parent may scoff at the idea but two former mobile phone company employees in Chennai are taking mobile technology into its next and perhaps logical frontier.
Crazy traffic on Chennai roads doesn't bother Madhuri Singh as she is too busy to notice all that.
She's busy studying on her mobile phone for the GRE.
Mobile learning is the next frontier of mobile technology that Madhuri, a veterinary sciences student has logged onto.
It all happened when she hit upon wizdom.in, a website, offering a GRE training programme that can be downloaded to a GPRS mobile phone.
The idea was conceived by two former Motorola and Nokia employees.
But for those who are wondering that the screen is too small to teach they have an answer to that also.
''Your phone is being held really close 20 cms from the eye that's one factor so there is an apparent magnification. So, the moon looks bigger than the sun. That's one factor. The other is we have very painstakingly thought through this,'' said Anand Kannan, MD, Wizdom.in.
Download software
All you need to do is download the software from Wizdom.in for a price far less than what most coaching institutes charge.
Once it's on the phone then you can just log on anytime and start studying.
If one has any doubt they can write back to a teacher monitoring the progress at the other end.
''You always feel like some teacher or guide is with you. If I have some problems I just send that across. If I'm not able to understand what's in this question they reply to us. It's so motivating and I feel I can prepare better by it,'' said Madhuri.
''All the data whatever he is doing during those hours is available to the student facilitator at any point and analysing this data is as good as being next to the student.
''And the learning of his understanding goes back to the student in the form of feedback which the student can see again on the mobile,'' said Yogish K Lavanis, Director, Wizdom.in.
