''We even put wastage strawberries to use by making jams squash and other products of the B grade and the C grade strawberrries''.

''There is no loss in the strawberries. We sell the strawberries in the factory for Rs 35 rupees per kilogram,'' Singh said.

Jammu's soil and weather conditions in winter are ideal for strawberry cultivation.

Low temperatures and bright sunshine have attracted over 200 farmers to opt for strawberry farming. In three years over 100 acres in Jammu have been brought under strawberry cultivation.

''We can say with pride that Jammu area of the state of Jammu Kashmir is number one in the strawberry production all over the country,'' Assistant Director for National Horticulture JB Singh said.

He says, because the fruit size is big and it has got durability it can stored for three, four days without any problem.

''Production is good and it's tasty and it's being cultivated on a large scale,'' he said.
