CID searches Vanzara's home
Samples collected from the site in Ilol village have been sent for forensic tests.
 INDIA , 7-May-2007  1:27:37 AM
The home of senior Gujarat police officer D G Vanzara was searched by the CID, which is looking for the remains of Kausar Bi, the wife of fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh.

Samples collected from the site in Ilol village have been sent for forensic tests.

Vanzara and another IPS officer are already under arrest but as the search operation took place under heavy security, angry villagers came out in Vanzara's support and threatened the media.

Samples collected

CID IG Geeta Johri led a team of about 25 CID officials and forensics experts who searched Vanzara's house and its premises.

Geeta Johri took charge of the case for the second time on Friday. She was the one who had uncovered the case but was shunted out by the Gujarat government.

But after the Supreme Court questioned the move on Friday, the Gujarat government brought her back.

In Illol the investigating team dug up three places including a well in Vanzara's compound.

The CID believes Vanzara and his men killed and burned Kausar Bi and threw her remains in the well. The team collected 6-7 soil samples and these will now be sent to the forensics science laboratory in Gandhinagar for testing.

As the May 15 deadline set by the Supreme Court draws near, the CID has increased the pace of investigations.

Earlier in the day, the Home Ministry sent out a formal notification suspending the two IPS officers-D G Vanzara and Rajkumar Pandyan, who are in police custody till May 8.
