| Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha election from Assam.

| Singh is seeking re-election in the biennial poll from Assam for the fourth time with his term expiring next month.
The Prime Minister filed his papers as a Congress candidate in the office of the legislative assembly secretary this morning.
He was accompanied by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his cabinet colleagues, APCC President Bhubaneswar Kalita and Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev.
Singh's present term ends on June 14 next and election to the seat will be held on May 24 when polling for another seat held by BJP's Indramoni Bora will also take place.
The last date of filing of nominations is May 14 and the papers will be scrutinised the next day.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is May 17. Counting of votes will take place on May 24.
Singh became Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha when he was elected for a third term in 2001 and two years later, he became Prime Minister after Congress President Sonia Gandhi declined the post.
