Husband searches for missing wife
The couple had appealed to almost everyone for help from the Human Rights Commission to the IG of Police and even the SP.
 INDIA , 15-May-2007  0:46:41 AM
Sukhbir Singh Thakur's 20-year-old wife Shraddha Sharma has been missing since May 4.

Sukhbir, a Rajput, and Shraddha, a Brahmin girl, were married off on January 24 despite opposition from Shraddha's family and threats from her uncle Om Prakash Chaubey, a sub-inspector in Bhopal.

The couple had appealed to almost everyone for help from the Human Rights Commission to the IG of Police and even the SP.

Then on May 4, Chaubey together with Shraddha's parents visited them, seeking to patch things up and took Shraddha back, as her younger sister was to be married off.

Shraddha was two months pregnant at the time. Ever since, there's been no news of her.

Anxious wait

The anxious husband is now searching frantically for his missing wife and is worried about their unborn child.

''There has been no contact. The mobile is switched off. There is nobody at home. I am looking for them, I just want my wife back,'' says Sukhbir.

Shraddha's parents' house in Sehore near Bhopal is locked. Neighbours haven't seen the family for a while.

The police say Shraddha is untraceable and her complaint against Chaubey is being investigated.

''If anything comes out against the ASI in the investigation, suitable action will be taken against him,'' said Anant Kumar Singh, SP, Bhopal.

Sukhbir's worries that Shraddha's family might force her to abort their child or worse, even file a false case against him.

The odds are not in his favour and all Sukhbir can do now is hope for a miracle.
