| The INS Kursura submarine museum, one of the main tourist attractions in the city, is in need of effective air-conditioning.
Of the 32 split ACs, a majority have stopped functioning, turning the museum into a mini-blast furnace.
Visitors return from the museum totally suffocated and sweating.
"Initially, I thought the sweating and suffocation is due to summer and congestion inside the decommissioned submarine. Later, I realised that Vizag cannot boast of having South East Asia's first submarine museum for failure to ensure effective AC system," James Williams, a businessman from Mumbai, who is on a vacation here, said.
No maintenance
Enquiries revealed that there was no proper maintenance of AC. Since installation of split Acs, after rejection of central AC on technical grounds, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority, which maintains the museum, has delayed their replacement.
The submarine displays its complete weapon package, including torpedoes, and gives the public an insight into the life of a submariner. Considered the Grand Old Lady of the Indian Navy, INS Kursura, India's fourth submarine, was hauled on the beach with the help of the National Ship Design and Research Centre (NASDRC) in 2001.
