Talks with Gujjars positive
The meeting held at Dausa circuit house lasted for about 90 minutes.
 INDIA , 31-May-2007  3:4:9 AM
The Rajasthan government said the first round of talks with the Gujjars community was a ''good beginning'' and the deadlock has ended.

The meeting held at Dausa circuit house lasted for about 90 minutes.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister B S Rajawat said that both parties have gone to apprise their leaders and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

In the preliminary rounds of talks held early Thursday morning, a 10-member Gujjars' delegation led by Karnal Kirori Singh Bhainsla sought shifting of Gujjars from OBC to ST category.

They also demanded cash gratia in cash, job to dependents, and withdrawal of police cases of agitation lodged in last three days, Rajawat said.

''It was a good beginning and deadlock has ended, hope for the best solution,'' he said.

The four ministers - Digamber Singh, S M Jat, Madan Dilawar, and L N Dave - who took part in the meeting have returned to the state capital and are holding talks with the Chief Minister.

Second round of talks

The second round of talks are likely to be held in the afternoon in Dausa, he said.

The Rajasthan government had on Wednesday night invited Gujjar representatives for talks to resolve the crisis in the wake of the violence that has left 15 dead so far and over 150 injured in the agitations.

Meanwhile, Gujjars have called for a bandh in parts of the state on Thursday. Earlier, they had said that until the government sends a formal letter to the Centre supporting their demand they will not end the agitation.

The Rajasthan Pre Engineering Test or RPET for Rajasthan has been postponed from Thursday till further notice because of the Gujjar agitation in several parts of the state. (With PTI inputs)
