Soon they will find themselves dissolved in a mass of students, each one of them competing to secure that elusive DU seat.
 INDIA , 4-June-2007  0:58:38 AM
Seventeen-year-old Ekta and her classmate Ananda have just completed their 700 km journey from Varanasi to Delhi. Theirs is a one-point agenda, gaining admission to a good college in Delhi University.

''Well I studied in Varanasi since my childhood. I did my 12th from there, so now I feel it is time to move out from here. Delhi is a nice place. I will have a very different exposure,'' said Ekta Shapuri, Student from Varanasi.

Soon they will find themselves dissolved in a mass of students, each one of them competing to secure that elusive DU seat.

Today in an important day in their quest to study at Delhi University and they head straight for north campus.

Another outstation student Ananda is from a very remote part of Ladakh called Chung Thang. A Schedule Tribe student, he plans to make the quota system work to his advantage.

''I've got 80 per cent and with the priviledge of ST. It's much easier to get into colleges. There is a ongoing debate on it whether we take a wrong advatage of it. But I am personally happy that I have had advantage of it. I can get into good colleges so I do not look at it as a handicap but as a blessing in disguise,'' said Ananda.

North campus is buzzing as hundreds of students scurry around to buy admission forms and complete every formality.

All the time, they are trying to get a sense of what life here on campus would be like.

''I am very apprehensive about it. I think I will be able to adjust. After all they are humans and will not eat me up. I know I will be meeting a lot of different people,'' said Ekta Shapuri, Student from Varanasi.

It's hard to miss the excitement in Ananda's voice as well.

''By looking at the environment and all if feel like I want to get into it fast (patch) i am all geared up for college life,'' said Ananda, DU aspirant.

On the very first day of DU releasing its forms, the campus is abuzz with students from across the country.
