DJ Aqueel faces drug charge
He was but was released after questioning, but will undergo medical tests today.
 INDIA , 6-June-2007  1:10:57 AM
Well-know disc jockey DJ Aqueel was detained at the Dubai airport on Tuesday for possessing drugs.

He was but was released after questioning, but will undergo medical tests today.

He has been charged with possession, and not consumption of drugs.

Party drug

Aqueel, who is among India's leading disc jockeys, was held after a small amount of the party drug Ecstasy was found on him.

The drug is used to get sudden bursts of energy.

He allegedly had two drug capsules in his possession.

Negative report

Aqueel's wife Farha, a jewellery designer, was travelling with him at the time of his detention.

''The Dubai Airport authorities found 0.4 mg of Ecstasy on him. He was taken away by the Anti-Narcotics department for a blood test, the report of which was negative,'' Farha said.

''The Anti-Narcotics department then sent him back to the airport where the custom officials detained him''.

Journey to fame

Aqueel shot into fame with his music remixes, his latest hit being with Don.

He once was a regular at the Enigma nightclub at the JW Marriott in Mumbai's Juhu area, and is currently a partner with Gautam Singhania in the Bandra nightclub Poison.

He is married to the daughter of actor Sanjay Khan, whose other daughter Suzanne is married to actor Hritik Roshan.

Claiming innocence

Aqueel's family has claimed that he is innocent, and is being framed.

His mother-in-law Zarine Khan blamed an unnamed prankster for the incident.

''My son-in-law is a decent guy who never touches anything like that. It was a mischief played by a so-called friend who planted some amount of Ecstasy in his bag and then informed the police,'' she said.

She added that a lawyer would be hired for him in Dubai.

Well-known names

This is not the first time a well-known Indian personality has been in trouble with drugs.
