| In Hyderabad, former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has brought together a few more ex-chief ministers to once again revive the idea of a third front.
The Telugu Desam, the AIADMK, Samajwadi Party, MDMK and four other regional parties are determined not to let their tag as former Chief Ministers make them sound like politicians of the past.
They will soon launch a political front that hopes to challenge both the UPA and the BJP at the national level before the next general elections.
''Whether we are going to call it a third front or not is yet to be decided. We have formed a new front and our aim is to provide a viable national alternative to the BJP led front and the Congress led front,'' said J Jayalalitha, General Secretary, AIADMK.
The front's immediate plan is to be relevant in the Presidential polls. The eight regional parties together constitute around eight per cent vote share of the electoral college and could play a decisive role.
''From the last meeting to this meeting our strength has gone up. Our vote share too will go up,'' said Om Prakash Chautala, Former CM, Haryana.
The leaders say they want to tread slowly and the name of the new front and its convenor will be announced later.
The set of leaders will meet next in Chennai end of this month. The strength of the front so far is 8 regional parties. Its dream however is that more will join.
