| After weeks of discussions and files being transferred, it's official - public transport in Delhi just got more expensive.
The minimum bus fare (for the first four km) has been increased from Rs 2 to Rs 3.
The meter-down autorickshaw fare has been increased from Rs 8 to Rs 10 for the first kilometre, followed by Rs 4.50 as against Rs 3.50 for every subsequent kilometre.
The meter-down taxi fare has been gone up to Rs 15 instead of Rs 13.
Commuters concerned
Delhiites say they are willing to pay more, but they must get better service.
''They should improve facilities for the physically challenged,'' said K Mahadevan, Bus Commuter.
Delhi's three-wheeler drivers are notorious for setting fixed rates and ignoring their meters.
Most passengers are concerned about whether autorickshaw drivers will follow their metres.
''I don't think they will go by the meter. The government's promises of disciplining them are all fake,'' said Meera Khanna, Autorickshaw Commuter.
However, with government's poor track record in disciplining the drivers, it seems very unlikely that they will mend their ways despite the fare hike.
