Proposal to extend IT corridor widt
A view of the IT corridor from Perungudi to Sirusery.
 INDIA , 12-June-2007  1:26:8 AM
The High Court-appointed Monitoring Committee has rejected a State Government proposal to extend the width of the IT corridor by a kilometre on either side along Old Mamallapuram Road (OMR) up to Mamallapuram.

The proposal, calling for amendments to Development Control Rules, was rejected at the 12th meeting of the Committee at the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority office on Friday, according to sources.

The rules envisage the corridor having a width of 500 metres on either side of the road. The second draft Master Plan limits the IT corridor on the north by Kottivakkam, the south by Semmancheri village, the east by Buckingham Canal and the west by the prescribed 500-metre limit.

A press release on the meeting said the Committee was briefed about the letter received from AIADMK party headquarters secretary K.A. Sengottaiyan in response to the notice served on the party's headquarters.

Members of the committee said the panel would not discuss individual cases and directed the CMDA to proceed as per the prescribed guidelines.

It reviewed action taken on the High Court's orders of August 23, 2006 and was apprised of the Government decision to file a review petition in the Supreme Court. The Government would be seeking to constitute a committee to review the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Act, 1971 and the High Court's observations on strict enforcement of regularisation.
