| People in the capital woke up to a surprisingly cooler morning on Tuesday.
Overcast skies brought down temperatures a bit, giving the much needed relief from the soaring temperatures and high humidity of the past few days.
It also rained in Uttarakhand. Nainital, Almora and Ranikheth have received refreshing showers including the Tarai region of Uttar Pradesh. There were overnight rains in Chandigarh as well.
The spell of heavy rain also took the heat off one of India's favourite summer escape destinations - Shimla, with tourists enjoying the sudden drop in temperatures.
The maximum temperature in the hill station has come down to 28 degrees and the minimum to 21 degrees.
Over the last few days, the hill station had recorded 31 degrees, which is five degrees above normal.
Heat wave
Temperatures dropped in many places on Monday, thanks to dust storms and rain but the heat wave will be back.
Most places are already over 40 degree Celsius and over 70 people have died of the heat.
According to Met department, the maximum temperature was expected to stay around 40 degrees Celsius.
On Monday, Amritsar's temperature was 44 degrees Celsius, Sriganganagar recorded 46, Hissar had another scorching day at 45.5, New Delhi recorded 41 while Khajuraho in MP recorded 45.5.
